The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
JCAHO strives to improve the quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.

Health Care Financing Administration
Oversees the Medicare program, a federal health insurance program persons over 65 years of age and certain disabled persons. Responsible for seeing that Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries receive the most appropriate and highest quality care available.

Voluntary Hospital Association (VHA)
A national health care provider alliance of more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals and 21,000+ non-acute health care organizations. VHA delivers supply chain management services to reduce the cost of health care and creates regional and national networks to help members solve key clinical and operational challenges.

Environmental Protection Agency
Functions to protect and enhance the environment in cooperation with state and local governments. Its mission is to control and abate pollution in the areas of air, water, solid waste, pesticides, radiation, and toxic substances.

Food and Drug Administration
Administers regulation of biological products under the biological product control provisions of the Public Health Service Act and applicable provision of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

American Medical Association
Disseminates scientific information to members and the public. Informs members on significant medical and health legislation on the profession and health legislation and represents the profession before Congress and governmental agencies. Cooperates in setting standards for medical schools, hospitals, residency programs, and continuing medical education courses.

American College of Clinical Laboratories
Works to ensure safety, quality, and proper management in the operation of clinical laboratories through education and accreditation.

American Association of Family Physicians
A national non-profit medical association of more than 84,000 family doctors, family practice residents, and medical students.

College of American Pathologists
Fosters improvement of education, research, and medical laboratory service to physicians, hospitals, and the public.

American Thoracic Society
Seeks to prevent and fight respiratory diseases through research, education and advocacy.

American Heart Association
Supports research, education, and community service programs with the objective of reducing premature death and disability from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Coordinates the efforts of physicians, nurses, health professionals, and others engaged in the fight against heart and circulatory disease.

American Diabetes Association
Promotes research, information and advocacy to find a prevention and cure for diabetes and to improve the lives of all people with diabetes. Promotes public awareness of diabetes as a serious disease.

American College of Radiology
Improves the health of patients and society by maximizing the value of radiology and radiologists by: advancing the science of radiology, improving radiological service to the patient, studying the socioeconomic aspects of the practice of radiology.

Commission on Cancer of American College of Surgeons
Dedicated to the goal of reducing the morbidity and mortality caused by cancer through prevention, monitoring, and reporting of care, standard-setting, and education.

American Dietetic Association
Dietetic professionals, registered dieticians, and dietetic technicians serving the public through promotion of optimal nutrition, health and well being.

Commission on Laboratory Accreditation
Improves the quality of clinical laboratory services, and ensures the accuracy and reliability of test results through an educational and peer review inspection process.

Administration Department of Business and Professional Regulation
Works to ensure that all Floridians have access to affordable, quality health care.


Florida
Florida Agency for Health Care Administration
Responsible for the administration of the Medicaid program, for the licensure and regulation of health facilities, and for providing information to Floridians about the quality of the health care they receive in Florida.

Florida AHCA offers a website, FloridaHealthFinder.gov , which offers valuable information on health care topics, medications, procedures, and diseases, including an easy to use symptom navigator. You can also find  groups and organizations that provide information, referral, or assistance with the cost of medical care and other expenses. AHCA's website also allows you to compare hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, health plans, nursing homes, and prescription drugs on a variety of measures.

Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HRS)
Seeks to prevent and control the spread of acute, chronic and infectious disease. Provides basic family health care services to persons unable to access care from the private sector. Monitors the sanitary status of water and sewage systems, group living facilities, and other activities that have a potential to threaten the public's health.

Florida Board of Nursing
Ensures that all nurses with a license to practice in Florida meet qualifications for licensure and grants approval for nursing education programs.

University of South Florida College of Nursing
Conducts research and offers bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing.

Hillsborough Community College School of Nursing
Offers a two-year course study program which leads to an Associates Degree. Students are eligible to become licensed Registered Nurses upon program completion.

Pasco-Hernando Community College School of Nursing
Provides opportunities for academic, personal, and cultural enrichment, for the advancement of skills, for career/technical training for the better understanding of our world.
