Blood Sugar Levels
The American Diabetes Association has stated the following as the goals for blood glucose (blood sugar) level in the patient with diabetes:
Diagnosis of Diabetes
A fasting blood glucose >126 mg/dl on two different occasions
A random blood glucose >200 mg/dl on two different occasions
A random blood glucose >200 mg/dl with any symptom of diabetes (frequent urination, thirsty, fatigue, blurred vision, hungry, numbness in fingertips or feet, or wounds that don’t heal well).
Blood Glucose Goals for Adults and Non-Pregnant Women
Before Meals: 90 to 130 mg/dl
1 to 2 hours after beginning of meals: <180 mg/dl
A1c (3 month average of blood glucose): <7%
Blood Glucose Goals for Pregnancy
Fasting: < 95 mg/dl 1 Hour after Meal: < 140 mg/dl 2 Hours after Meal: < 120 mg/dl
