Orthopaedic PreCare
Our innovative PreCare program takes the mystery out of surgery and recovery. Before ever being admitted, patients are taught to use assistive devices such as walkers and canes. They also learn before surgery the specific exercises they will need to do to return to an active lifestyle. A team of nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, respiratory therapists, anesthesiologists and admission representatives work together to serve the special needs of each patient. The team discusses each phase of the care plan providing descriptive literature and detailed videotapes to fully prepare patients for surgery, recovery and rehabilitation. A PreCare team member may even visit the patient's home to see if temporary modifications like a ramp leading into the house or grab bars in the bathroom are needed to make the patient's recovery safer and quicker. Arrangements for home health care and equipment needs can also be made before surgery.
