Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
The Women's Center at University Community Hospital is proud to offer the highest level of care for Tampa’s tiniest newborns in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.NICUIII.jpg

Our fifteen-bed NICU has a team of neonatologists, a neonatal nurse practitioner, respiratory therapists and an anesthesiologist available at all times. Nursing services are provided by specially trained registered nurses who are all neonatal resuscitation certified and can provide advanced life support for critically ill neonates.

Our five-bed Level III NICU is licensed to care for babies that weigh less than 1,000 grams, surgical patients and babies requiring long-term ventilator support. Neonatologists are in the hospital 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies.

Our NICU has considered every detail for the developmental care of the neonate. State-of-the-art cardiac/respiratory monitors at each bedside provide split-screen technology so the nurse can monitor specific patients while at any bed. Technologically advanced incubators can function as isolettes or care centers. The lighting in the unit is low throughout the day and even lower at night, and soft music plays continuously. Kangaroo care is also offered to parents, which involves the baby laying skin-to-skin on Mom or Dad for extended periods of time.
